Ridley Scott (born 30 November, 1937) is an British film director and producer. He was the director of Gladiator and returned to direct the film's sequel, Gladiator II.

Behind the scenes[]

In a first look at Gladiator II, Scott described himself as having been regretful at not having directed the sequels to Alien and Blade Runner, but that at the time he didn't want to go through it again. He, however, was determined to keep Gladiator to himself and the project has a personal history, as he was born in the northeast of England, but was shipped to Germany to live in Hamburg and Frankfurt, as his father was in the forefront of the Marshall Plan to rebuild Germany following World War II.[1] In another interview, Scott described Gladiator II as having been the best thing he ever made, before retreating slightly and stating "One of the best things. I've made a few good 'uns. I know exactly who I am."[2]
